Conference 2021

The Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS) is a community of scholars and other researchers whose objectives are to promote the study of Africa in Canada, inform Canadian policy on and in Africa, and facilitate exchanges and linkages between Canadian and African universities and research institutions.

Each year, CAAS organizes a conference that gathers scholars and professionals working on all aspects of African Studies. This year’s conference will be hosted virtually by Western University in London, Canada, under the theme: “Achieving Ubuntu: Reframing Equity, Partnership and Social Change”. The CAAS conference will run from 7-10 June 2021.

The program of the conference

Your host will be me, Temitope Oriola, president of the association. For all details about your participation in the conference, please contact the conference organizers at conf@caas-acea.org.

CAAS is a proudly English-French bilingual institution and we are working towards a more robust bilingualism than has sometimes been the case at our annual conferences. I therefore invite you to prepare your slideshow in the other language than your oral presentation. Hence, if your paper is in English, it would be illustrated by a few slides in French that capture the essence of your main points, and vice versa. This is not a requirement, and linguistic perfection is not the objective. Rather, it is simply a gesture to strengthen a core attribute of the association.

We look forward to seeing you virtually in June, with best wishes for a safe and healthy 2021 in the meantime.

Temitope Oriola, CAAS President
