The Faculty of Arts and Science provides undergraduate degrees (BA and
BSc) to over 1,000 students within a setting of interdisciplinary linkages,
small classroom sizes, expanding experiential learning opportunities, and
excellent teaching and research. An MA in Women and Gender Studies
is offered jointly with another university. There are 55 full-time faculty
members, many of whom are recognized nationally and internationally for
contributions to their fields. Among the faculty is a CRC in Social Innovation
and Community Engagement, the NSERC Atlantic Chair for Women in
Science and Engineering, and the Nancy’s Chair in Women’s Studies.
Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost as part of the
Mount’s senior executive team, the Dean of Arts and Science will provide
strategic direction, academic planning and research leadership, and
administrative oversight to advance the Faculty’s initiatives. Committed to
excellence in teaching, research, student engagement, and the success of
all members of the Faculty, the Dean will work collaboratively with internal
and external stakeholders to increase the resources and impact of the
Faculty of Arts and Science.
The successful candidate will be a respected and innovative educator and
leader with excellent academic qualifications and teaching and research
achievements, administrative experience, and the skill to build strong
relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. A strategic
thinker who values diversity and is a passionate advocate for the arts
and sciences, the Dean will be a skilled communicator who will facilitate
and enhance the endeavours of the Faculty and the University, through
an open and collegial style, dynamic and creative leadership, outstanding
management skills, and a flexible approach to problem solving. Experience
building collaborative teams and working with a diverse range of internal
and external partners will be important assets in this role.
