Call for Nominations for the CAAS Executive - deadline 30 April!

Published on April 16, 2019

1) The Canadian Association of African Studies invites nominations for the position of Vice-President. This position is a one-year commitment that automatically transitions to the position of President (also one year). It entails participating in executive committee discussions over the course of the year leading up to the annual conference, learning about CAAS conventions and policies, and preparing to assume leadership of the association. The VP would normally be francophone in a year when the President is Anglophone, in an alternating pattern.

2) The Canadian Association of African Studies invites nominations for three (3) Members-at-Large, including one graduate student. The Members-at-Large shall normally be elected for a term of three years and may serve at the request of the Board of Directors for an additional term of one or two years. Members-at-Large act as a conduit between members and the Executive. This role includes promoting CAAS and the conference, establishing links with graduate students, contributing to the website by passing on local information (new appointments, accepted theses, etc.), and nominating potential Joel Gregory prize candidates.

CAAS is committed to equity and diversity and welcomes applications from women, visible minorities, Africa-based scholars, scholars at all ranks and career stage, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity. CAAS is enriched intellectually, socially and culturally by the presence and participation of people from diverse backgrounds.

Nominations should be sent to Sarah Katz-Lavigne at communications@caas-acea.org by April 30th, 2019. Nominations must include a short bio and explanation of what the nominee desires to contribute to CAAS. As per CAAS by-laws, nominations must be agreed to/signed by three members and the nominee. An email with everyone cc'd would be sufficient to convey this consensus.

Sincerely,

Meredith Terretta, CAAS President
